SUPR VMAX featured

India has over 160 million smartphone users today and these users are only set to grow in numbers in the next few years. In fact, it is estimated that by 2017 this number will grow to 234 million smartphone users. For all of these users, their devices are their primary medium for content consumption and Internet access. This means that as this user base grows, more people will consume the apps that you’ve been creating for them.

However, while you’ve been creating apps keeping a certain audience in mind, would it not be interesting if you got to understand these smartphone users better and know the kind of apps they access? Vserv’s new Smartphone User Persona Report (SUPR) 2015, gives you an in-depth understanding of the growing Indian smartphone user base and their usage patterns. The report based on a study conducted by Nielsen Informate Mobile Insights, segments these users into different personas and provides rich insights about each of them such as app usage, time spent on the device and data consumption patterns.

Some key highlights from the report:

  • The growing smartphone penetration in the country is primarily driven by Indians under the age of 25 years who make up for 63% of the user base.
  • Smartphone users on an average spend 169 minutes per day on their devices.
  • The report maps smartphone users to six key user personas: App Junkies, Social Stars, Conversationalists, Entertainment Buffs, Utilitarians and Dabblers.

SUPR includes many other such never-before known insights about smartphone usage in India, making it possibly the biggest and most detailed study on smartphone users in the country. We urge you to give the report a detailed look, for it will provide some very insights that can help you understand who uses the kind of apps you create and how you can better these app experiences based on your understanding of these users.
